Lunar New Year Editorial: Year Of The Rabbit

This editorial features Maison Q 2023 Chinese New Year Collection. The handmade clothing featured is produced using several original print patterns which are designed exclusively by Maison Q for Year of the Rabbit.

Both Orly and Teddy’s outfits worn in the images in this editorial were customized, with one side of their garments featuring the same print, so they could match, and then the other side used fabric that each child choose. This, therefore, created a unique item of clothing and something they will truly love and cherish, as they helped create the garment. Being reversible the garments can then be worn to several events and celebrations over the Lunar New Year. 

According to Chinese astrology, Rabbits are predicted to be gentle, quiet, elegant, and alert as well as quick, skillful, kind, patient, and very responsible, sometimes reluctant to reveal their minds to others and have a tendency to escape reality, but always faithful to those around them.

In the Chinese five-element theory, each zodiac sign is associated with one of the five elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, or Earth. For example, a Water Rabbit comes once in a 60-year cycle.

This is the year of the Water Rabbit.

Lucky numbers: 3, 4, 6, and numbers containing them (like 34 and 46)
Lucky days: the 26th, 27th, and 29th of every Chinese lunar month
Lucky colors: red, pink, purple, blue
Lucky flowers: plantain lily, jasmine
Lucky directions: east, south, and northwest
Lucky months: the 1st, 4th, 8th, and 11th Chinese lunar months
Unlucky numbers: 1, 7, and 8
Unlucky colors: dark brown, dark yellow, white
Unlucky directions: north, west, and southwest

Famous Rabbits include: Albert Einstein, Michael Jordan, David Beckham & Lionel Messi.

The photos seen in the editorial were taken on Jonker St in the UNESCO World Heritage City of Malacca in Malaysia. Malacca has its internationally recognized status due to the unique mixing of Portuguese, Dutch, Malay, and Chinese influences since the 15th Century. A timeless city with a historical past mixing Europe with South East Asia.
